The acting industry is expensive before you even get through the door. Drama school costs thousands, and for those trying to get in, even one monologue coaching session comes with a hefty price tag. Then, once you're trained, the workshops, masterclasses and casting opportunities keep asking you to pay more. I don't think access to an acting career should depend on how much money you have, where you come from, or who you know. So let's get started.
It took me five years to get into drama school. I remember saving my pennies for a one to one monologue session with a local drama tutor and at the end, she asked if I wanted to join her weekly drama classes. I told her I couldn't afford them. So she offered them to me for free.
That year, I got into drama school.
In my third year, a casting director noticed me and offered me an audition for Stranger Things. Three months later, I made my West End debut in that very show.
I know how lucky I've been. And I also know that none of it might have happened if that one tutor hadn't decided that my lack of money shouldn't stand in the way of my potential.
And so The Chameleon Workshops were born. Every session, 100% free. No exceptions.
Informal monthly sessions on Zoom. Come along to chat, listen, and start building a community. Meet other creatives. Recommend a film. Ask for a casting director's email. Find a self-tape reader. Extremely low stakes and no pressure to have anything figured out!
